Running speaker wire into front doors of an Explorer

I currently have my amps connected into an adapter and plugged into the factory wiring harness for the door speakers. I want to run some 16 gauge speaker wire from the amps into the doors.

What do I need to do to run the speaker wire from the body into the door? Does it have the plastic connector things (molex?) or can I just run the wire through the rubber boots with the other wires? It's a '97 Explorer.

Ok, so it can be done, it's just a pain. Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. It sounds like I should leave plenty of time to do the driver side...

on the left hand door you just gotta work on getting it through the boot and then the black plastic "case" thing. just pop the case where you see the clips on it.

on the right side, just the rubber boot. its simple.

i got an explorer i just ran it through the rubber boot

Cool, thanks for the info everyone. I'll try to get this done on my next day off so I'll have plenty of time to fight with the driver side door.
