running mid+tweet off 4ch. amp

Is it possible to run my comp. set using the amplifier as a crossover instead of the passive crossover it came with? I know this is very similar to, if not "active" i just didnt know if the amps crossovers are "good enough" as in would i need an external crossover or something of that nature? I hear people talking about getting a HU that is capable of running active. Do i need a better head unit? All help is appreciated.

They usually aren't.

Your amplifier needs to have a bandpass xover, as well as a highpass xover.

Bandpass so you can highpass AND lowpass the mid, and highpass for the tweeter itself. Also, even if you amp does have these, sometimes they are not as versatile as needed and have shallow slopes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Really, it depends on your amplifier... if you'll be able to run active properly.

thanks, and no my amplifier is not good enough i wouldnt think. It's the little alpine in the sig.

very few amps have enough of a detailed crossover to do that but some do...

your better off buyin a active crossover

Sundown 100.4, Helix Dark Blue, and a few others offer bandpass capabilities. HU that can run active is usually the easiest way...

the SAX-100.4 can be run that way...didn't know that...may have to check that out
