Running 6.5 components off of HU

I did it for a guy with a Panasonic HU and it sounded really good. It was a Panasonic with the built in class D amp that puts out like 55 watts rms x4:eek:
I'm just saying it can be done until he gets a nice amp.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
What deck was that? Never herd of such a thing.

I've got a nice Alpine I can ship you for $49. it's 50 watts per ch RMS, 2 channels.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If your new HU will run active? You could get the Pioneer Revs, run active using the four channel amp in the hu. It will sound good if you cross it over 80hz.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
Took the words right outta my mouth. Well, kinda

I was going to suggest the cheapest 50+ rms 2chan amp you could find adn the Pioneer Revs. Get pretty **** loud and dont sound half bad, good price as well.

My vote is this guys little Alpine 50x2 rms and a set of Pioneer Revs ftw.

Come out just at like 175 shipped for that amp and the comps, IIRC

I run a set of Quart comps off a head unit, they sound ok, get loud eough for my wife backed by 2 12's.. They CAN be run off a HU but will perform much better off an amp.

Hell, come to think of it, my other truck (one I never drive) has Kicker Resolution components ran off a OEM unit and it rocks pretty good. Also backed by a single 12.....

Hook it up, give it a shot, and see if YOU like it. Not a bunch of strangers on a message board!

very good post, because that is all that matters.

I dont know the model, it was top of the line about three to five years ago.

Panasonic had two HU's with this class d amp built in.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Of course it's possible to run components off a head unit amp.
Its possible to start a fire with a magnifying glass, but that doesn't mean it's the best tool for the job.

I appreciate where you're coming from, though. Anything is possible.

I might pick up some good components and if they're not getting loud enough for me I can always plug em into an amp.

I bet I'll need the midbass when my soundsplinter RP-L 12 gets in. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Definitely not the best tool for the job. But there's no reason why it can't work if you are on a budget. Even when you are running off a 200W rated amp, most people are never running 200W into their speakers anyways. If it's turned up half way you might only be running 40W into your speakers. Just try to run off head unit power and turn it up a little louder.

99% of drivers run fine off of HU power with their stock speakers and their cars can still get pretty loud.

Unless you are trying to win a wattage contest (compensating?), or your car has extreme road/wind noise, or your speakers are terribly inefficient, then head unit power off a decent unit will probably work for the average listener just looking to improve their car's sound quality.

Update on that amp! its 60 per side. I just hooked it up and it sound really nice!

Closest i could find would be http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18732

31 Rms x 4.. 75x4 max power.. I'm interested in doing it, but i have a bose system and i wont believe the bose amp puts out less than that.

Alright guys,

So I got an old yamaha amp(YPA-700) off or Craigslist for $30 bucks (woohoo!)

it does 70x2 for my front 2 speakers. I spent today wiring it all up, and I can DEFINately hear much more in the music, its much clearer, but when I turn it up I can hear how crappy the stock speakers are too.

Whats a good pair that will run excellently off of 70RMS and is around $120 MAX.

Try not to say the RSD's... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I'm looking for more variety.
