It just happened, haha. My brother's girlfriend's brother (yeah, I know) turned it on, was in the middle of 'Creep', first song, and it froze. Turned it off, turned it back on and got RROD.

Lights 1, 3 and 4.

Any idea what it is?

If it's the MOBO, I have a MOBO with a broken drive I can probably swap 'em out.

do this..

turn it on

let it rrod, while it's in ROD hold down the wireless sync button, while holding it down press the eject button.

this will tell a digit of the error code. there are 4 digits. press the eject button for every digit of code(4 times), 5 time will return it to 3rings

4 red lights = 0

1 red lights = 1

2 red lights = 2

3 red lights = 3

tell me what 4 digit code it gives you and it will probably be an easy fix if your willing to open the bish up.

I had my 360 for about 5 years and it just got the RROD a couple weeks ago. I said fuck it and tried the towel trick and it fixed it. Been good so far. Might wanna try it before you open it up.

Microsoft says 30-40% of the xbox's they receive are because of the 4 lights, not 3.

3 lights is hardware failure.

2 lights is overheating. (hence what doing the towel trick does)

there is a secondary code you can pull up to help pinpoint the issue.

wrap the entire 360 in towels and let the system overheat itself out of the 3rrod into 2rrod. after it's in 2rrod you turn it off and let the system cool down. turn it on and the 360 should begin to work.

downside about the towel trick is it will cause further damage to the main board. most times the issue is the GPU/CPU loses contact from the mobo from the mobo warping the first time of the overheating into the 3rrod. by doing the towel trick you may warp the mobo even more and cause even more damage.
