i currently have a Black and Decker with a 1/4 collet that i'm using with my Jasper 200 and i'm interested in buying a more heavy duty router that can be used for bigger house projects...and can have a 1/2 collet to handle a 3/4 radius round over bit for box building...

I'm looking at these two hitachi's...

Hitachi M12V2

Hitachi KM12VC

seems like the M12V2 is a huge tank. Has 3.25HP, tool is 14lbs...

KM12V2 is 2.25HP, tool itself is only 8lbs...RPM's are similar...

do you guys think the smaller KM12V2 is plenty powerful enough for most wood working already?

any suggestions is appreciated...thanks

that is a nice one as well...alittle more then the hitachi but makita's name can't be talked down on...

well, i guess the question is if i should spend a tad more and get the more powerful, bigger, heavier, 3.25-3.5hp ones or will the smaller, 2.25-2.5, lighter, little brothers will work plenty fine...

thankx...

whats the largest thing that you think youll be building?
3/4 roundover is really big.
well, i will be using 3/4 mdf, so a 3/4 radius round over would give me perfect round overs...

my dad has build a house and we're thinking bout building another house and one for me as well in the future...

we could be using it on pretty much anything that you can think of in respects to building a house...all the trimings, stair holders, deck, etc...

Hitachi KM12VC

It has more than enough power to shred MDF and the dual bases are a nice option.

Also has 1/4 and 1/2 collets like the bigger router. Does the larger router come with a case like the Hitachi KM12VC does?

Yes. The hitachi I have has a fixed/plunge base, 1/4" and 1/2" collets, dust collector and a few other odds and ends. Fot some reason the link isn't showing all that so what I posted might just be for the one.

thats what i was leaning towards...

i don't know if the larger router has the case...you'd think it should...

i'll check out other brands as well for these dual set up smaller routers then...

as far as name brand goes for routers, hitachi and makita seems to be the cream of the crops...

bosch, porter cable are seems excellent as well...

Dewalt DW618PK regular and plunge base. Kinda pricy but awesome and you can hook a vacuum hose to it and there is virtually no dust at all. Also cuts through 3/4 mdf like butter with a upcut spiral bit.
