router bits keep breaking....

try cutting slower and less depth per pass. and yes if you can accept 1/2" shanks on your router they will last longer.
im cutting the whole /75 at the same time...so your saying do half of that...then go over and do the other half?

 
I do 3/4" in 1/3 or even 1/4 passes when using a 1/4 shaft bit. dont forget MDF is pretty dense when it comes to cutting thats why it wont jigsaw as fast as say plywood or MDF

oh and home depots customer service is really good.

they took back all of my BROKEN bits because if my stupidity.

 
Rule of thumb that the editor in cheif for "American Router" magazine gave me...

He told me never to cut deeper (on a single pass) than 1/2 the cutting diameter. So if it had a cutting diameter of 1/2", dont cut deeper than 1/4" on a single pass. Not to mention, what destroys router bits, with respect to MDF wood, is the glue that holds them together.
