Round vs Square subwoofers?

depends how much money you want to spend. I have a company called arc audio. I don't know how familiar people are with arc audio but they rock. They are round SQL that rattle the entire car. hand made in california. But yeah I would definately go with a round sub, I do not like square subs... the design isn't the best.

I wouold say arc is better than mtx.

The difference is cone area. SQ/SPL is based on the box you make for the subwoofer. Those who say square subwoofers have no SQ then why has the L7 won SQ competitions?
Because it has human judges. I've owned L7's and they would have never won if I was judging.

lol subs in an actual SQ setup barely make a difference. It's all about level matching and overall frequency response. You can do that with a $30 sub from wal-mart, if your willing to use several to get the LFE you need for some isaca tracks. L7's win in competition because kicker had a stupid good SQ team in the 90's. Elridge's 4-runner was a kicker car, but he didnt' use stock l7's anyway, they were built especially for his application. Anyway the shape of sub doesn't make much of a difference. In terms of loudness SD is SD a 15 inchs square has the surface area of almost an 18"circle. So all things equal it' s a little louder inch for inch. However, the square shape does not allow for alot of xmax due to irregularities distributing force. This kinda balances it out vs some longer throw circle subs. Also if you ever want a different sub, there are a hell of a lot more circles than squares. To the OP, you should really read my reply in your other thread too, it may help you quite a bit here.

No.

Actually tempest is correct

there is a guy on caco that has a 6th order build that is nasty clean and he is using L7

and fwiw jackhammers are horrible sounding round or square

the L7 and Brutus/Atlas are way better sounding and louder as far as square subs.

Blind leading the blind ITT....also.....
