Round solobarics

I am in need of a little help here. I have a pair of round solos (S12d). I am looking to replace these and quite frankly I an not sure what type of sub these are considered to be. I bought them back when I knew little about car audio(still learning) because I new of the reputation to get loud. Over the years of listening I have noticed that they play loud at lower frequencies but seem to tail off at higher frequencies. Were/are these subs considered SPL or SQ subs. I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but figure I should ask some people with more knowledge.

I am looking to replace these with a sub that has a flatter freq response(I believe this is what I want, solid output over a bigger freq range) any suggestions?? I have looked at and listened to the W6 and W7's but the price is a bit high. I will be powering whatever sub/subs I get with a PPI PC2150(600x1 @ 4ohm) for the time being, still looking to get my hands on a PC2350

Thats the thing I really am not sure what I am looking for. I was hoping to drop down to a single sub rather than a pair. I am by no means into competing I just am looking to put together a solid sounding system. I listen to all types of music so I would like an all around performer. As far as budget that is flexible, like I said I looked and listened to the W7 and while not excited about the price it would not deter me from buying the sub.

thanks again for all the help.

had no clue that the round solos were SQ subs, they can play pretty low.

well I am still not 100% certain I am going to get rid of them, but if I do I will definately post them here. I am keeping my eye on a 4-ohm on Ebay. If I decide to get that mine will be up for sale. They are both D series, 8-ohm VC. One of them has a chrome dipped basket, but it is flaking off a little. I will keep you posted

Keep an eye on the new Rl-s from Soundsplinter

The Soundsplinter Rl-p would be a good option aswell.

Stereo Integrity Magnum would be good.

Alpine Type-X

JL Audio W6v2

Adire Koda, Brahma or Tumult when they are released

They're supposed to....that's why they are called subwoofers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

hahaaa, yes I know they are supposed to play low I just did not think an SQ sub would play as low as it does. I have looked at the W6V2 but the dual 4 ohm VC is an issue. I am not sure if I want to stick with a pair of subs and the only way I can get them is if I get a pair to run at 4 ohm, mono. One thing that makes it tough is the only subs most can listen to are the name brands. I have also looked into the IDMAX but without ever hearing one it is tough to throw the $300+ out for one.

I may just have to take a leap of faith and go for it. Worse case I am not happy with it and I sell it for a little loss. I have read/ will read more of the many user reviews on this site before I make my choice, who knows maybe I keep the solos and try to add a solid pair of midbass for the rear deck or comonents up front to enhance the higher low range frequencies(kind of an oxymoron there). Thanks for all the help!
