Rockwood AMP-5555

So I have just jumped into the world of car audio and bought my first amp and next I have to buy my sub(Planning on a Rockford R1S4-10). But since I don't have anything to test out the amp I got I wanted to see if any veterans here had experience with this model of amplifier. I've seen and heard mixed reviews about the Rockwood name, but I snatched it on ebay for only $32.14.

600w -- Max

300w -- RMS

75w -- Each Channel RMS

150w -- Bridged RMS

HPF -- Yes

LPF -- Yes

2000 -- Year

AMP-5555 -- Model

Bridgeable -- Yes

Made in Korea

Everything seems like it should be an okay amplifier and that it should be satisfactory for a first time setup.

I'd put it back on ebay. Rockwood is a junk brand, the were primarily sold at flea markets back then, and that one looks ROUGH.
Well I'm on a really tight budget are there any other brands that are cheaper with manageable quality? I can't see how Boss or Pyle would be better, what about sony stuff?

What kind of TIGHT budget are you talking about for a sub amp or are you looking at a 4 ch to run? I may have an older amp that will serve justice or come off a BNEW American Bass Entry 4 ch amp that will work so much better than what you have chosen. What speakers are you wanting to run, and are you planning on running a 4 ohm sub, or a DVC 4 to run @2ohm mono on substage? Whats the Criteria here, and vehicle along with max budget?Ive got an oldie but goodie MTX Thunder Pro 75.2 that will blow that out of the water for cheapies on sub stage as well as front staging, and SQ as well. And a few others like Alpine Duo B 3523,3522 and a few more lying around in my amp room

Rockwood was WORSE than Boss and Pyle. Sony is decent, I know some hate on them because its mainstream, but no one can ever say they put out a **** product like Rockwood.

If your tight on cash try a Rockville amp, they are ok quality better than Boss and Pyle. You can get a phenom-m1 for under $100 shipped.

Or you can go with a ppi 600.2 , soundstream has a bunch of stuff around $100.

Just PLEASE stay away from Rockwood, Kenford, Pyle, Boss, Pyramid, Lanzar (Except Opti Drives), Legacy.

Rockwood is one of the many american hi-fi brands. American Pro, DHD, Volfenhag, Performance Teknique...

These are ALL bottom dwellers.

There is little to no accurate info available for that amp. I found it listed on teptronics at 45x4 but no mention of fuse size and bad photos so can't figure out if that's realistic or not.

It's not a sub amp anyway. It can probably produce enough power (bridged) for one decent pair of speakers. Doesn't match up at all with a single sub as it would only provide around 100w rms and 2 channels would be left unused.
