Rockford Parallel Wiring

I wired a rockford fosgate 200s parallel recently to two 4 ohm 15" Pioneers. When i turn it up to a certain a volume the amp shuts off momentarily until i bring the volume back down. The power cable is connected to my battery and i have the stock alternator in my '99 Cavalier. Is my amp shutting off b/c it is draining too much power? Do i need an external battery? Any help is appreciated.

What is shutting off your amp is thermal protection circuitry. First of all is your amp 2-ohm stable? If not then that would be the reason for it shutting down on you. Two 4 ohm subs in parallel is a 2 ohm load. That would be my best guess for your problem. I would either get a 2 ohm stable amp or a pair of 8 ohm subs.

would it help if i designed a cooling system for my amp? my speakers hit almost twice as hard as they were before... this could be done relatively easy i think...

I used to have the same problem with my punch 200ix. (The same one in my profile pushing the same subs @1.33 ohms.) I turned the gain down a little and that was that.
