m new to this forum all though i have been reading allot of posts and trying to learn more about car audio. However i was abit late on finding out about the sometimes negative feedback on a certain ebay seller patrick chandler/ Robot underground and have purchased an 18 inch subwoofer with the lighning audio tc desgned motor the one for sale now. i chose dual 4 ohm so that i could wire it to a 2 ohm load.

I plan to build either a sealed enclosre or a ported enclosure tuned relatively low 27-32 hz. was wondering what cf i was looking at for both box types.

I also was curios couldnt really find much clue anywhere as to whter or not spl was related to the "feel" of the bass. in short which box has more shake a sealed or a ported enclosure.

I Drive a Buic Le Sabre limited 97 and have rouglhy 6-8 cu' of awkward air space in my trunk(would have to have many different sized parts to fit in trunk.

I have

a soundstream scx 8

BAMF5500D

5500 max 1 ohm

3200 rms 1 ohm

2500 rms 2 ohm

1700 rms 4 ohm

considering i paid 270 shipped for this amp im assuming that those are not actual specs or they are specs at ideal circumstances (higher votage rating?)

so 2 part question ported or sealed volume for either

and realistic specs on my amp. Thanks a million

Mark Stephens

(i posted this exact same thing in enclosure help with a different title and didnt see any responses so trying it here sorry if its in wrong forum

Robot should know what size enclosure and what alignment will work properly for the parameters the sub has with the parts he used to build it. Ask him. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Uh, would you trust an answer from someone who used to put this at the end of every subwoofer advertisement on ebay:

"Wrency says:

Remember kids that your amp, especially a class D mono block amp will run full power into a 2 ohm load even though its 1ohm stable or states that it produces full power into a 1ohm load.. I know, this goes against what everyone says, but it's true. Simply adjust the gain properly to the 2ohm load and PRESTO, full power. If you want more info on this please email, robotunderground@yahoo.com Remember that an amp is simply a gain device. Signal in plus whatever +db gain the amp can do = output."

i believe those are ILS ratings on that amp
sorry but what is ILS? not completely up to date on jargon. also the woofer appears to have the 3hp ceramic motor from lighting audio.

what kinda realistic power am i looking at. im using stock alternator and as far as i know a stock batterie just got the cap and amp.

I thought that was common knowledge //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Stupid people annoy me, just not as bad as so-called "educated audio people", out lying to make a buck. This guy needs the truth kicked into him.

To the OP, I have no experience with this brand of woofer, but---I'd keep the gains kinda low for a bit to see if it holds together. He might not be all that savvy at building them if he isn't any smarter with amplifiers?.?.?

get a woofertester :/
are they very pricey? im a high school senior that works at mcdonalds and helps my mom out with the bills.

Being a frankenwoofer, Id suggest trying a few diff boxes till you find the performance you are looking for.
id love to be able to try a few differnt boxes but as i stated above im kinda limited on supplies i have a friend from school that has enough materials left over from his build for 1 maybe (2) 5-7cu ft boxes so not much room to rebuild much.

the supposed specs of the speaker is 18 in diameter(i know that much is true)

30mm xmax

.54 Qts

6.63 cu foot VAS

2.65" Xmech

3" voice coilx 60mm from tc sounds 3000/2000 i chose the dual 4 ohm configuration.

30A Semi woven leads on Nomex Spider

partsexpress should have them for around 89-99 dollars. Find a used one on here, worth having one in my opinion. Takes a few seconds to tell you specs for the woofer.
