Roadster Stereo

I recently picked up some gear for the first phase of the stereo build up in my roadster. There is very little room in this car and weight is an issue. I am using the factory speaker locations and a custom sub enclosure. Here is what I have so far...

The next issue is the subwoofer and I need some input from you so I can determine if this application will work. I am considering running an ES200 woofer...

in this ‘roadstersound’ enclosure. Here are the specs on the enclosure…. I have done some calculations and it looks like the enclosure comes up short on airspace but my calculations may be wrong. Thanks for looking, any advice would be appreciated.

The BMW Z3 Model 80 enclosure will work with any subwoofer that will fit. The Model 80 specs are as follows:

Cutout diameter -

Mounting depth -

Overall diameter -

Sealed Enclosure Volume - .28 to .32 cubic feet

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a margin for error in regards to manufacturer recommended airspace?

What happens when you run a driver with less airspace than recommended?

Thanks for the help.

Too small. If the enclosure was close, you could add some polyfil to attempt to make up for the difference. But you are talking about a box that is almost half the required size. It aint gonna work. Find a driver that requires less space.

Im finding the 4.4" mounting depth to be the problem. For example, that enclosure volume would work fine for an Image Dynamics ID8, but the ID8 is 4.75" deep. I suppose it would work with a spacer ring. Or just try researching some of the more popular 8's around here, hopefully you can find a decent one that short.

Im going to run the front components with 2 ch and bridge the other 2 for the sub... that gives me 260w @4ohm to power the sub. The rear speakers are only fill so Im going to run them with deck power.

I think I may go with the Alumapro EX8 unless anyone has a better option...

Sounds good, although I don't know why you need rear fill in a roadster, but up to you. I have heard lots of good stuff about the older Alumapro stuff, but not much about the newer stuff..

I just finished purchasing the last of the supplies for my stereo build. All Audison Connection : 14awg braided Sonus speaker wire, 2 X Best RCA's, Best 4awg fuse holder with Sonus fuses and 4awg power & ground wires. I started running wires this week and it is going to take some time to get this done. I hope to have some music in about 2 weeks.

I also decided to order the Roadstersound model 80v2 and the Alumapro driver that I should have by next week.

I'll post some pics soon.

Well after about 200 hours the install is almost done. I'll post more pics when I get a chance to detail the car. Can't wait until its all broken in so I can see what it's got. Thanks for looking.
