Rlp SQ=yuck.. what am i doing wrong?

well i fooled around with it today, i turned down the gain a little, turned down my SSF, and used a -12db slope.. im a little happier with the way it sounds now.. maybe i should just go sealed, i can't find the sound im looking for, i want it to blend with the front stage, but still be punchy, accurate, and loud.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I finished up the sealed box I said I would make today (~2 cubes sealed) and there was a big difference. It's louder, cleaner, and more accurate. I got to lower the SSF, the gain, and the HPF and the improvements are numerous! I didn't think so, losing a cube of internal volume and the "flared port" of the wedge, but the difference is there and noteworthy.

It got louder going to a sealed box? Interesting. I might be getting an 12" RL-p for the truck and if so I was planning on going sealed.

So you are going to keep it in the sealed box?

The previous enclosure was technically sealed as well, just with some fancy placement put in to give the impression of bandpass. I have yet to build an actual ported enclosure. I'd like to, but every box is $40 in material and a day's labor; I also have a ~4.5 cf gross volume limit thanks to my trunk.

I can't comment on whether I'll keep the new box yet. I have to listen to it for more than 4 minutes first. =) However based on a first impression I think after playing with the amp's settings a little more that I will definitely keep using it until I can design and build a better one.

2 cubes is a lil big sealed for an rl-p try adding some pieces of 2x4 inside the box. i have my rl-ps in about a 1cube before sub displacement, sounds wicked. ports are not good for sq in my exp, (many will argue that point) but ill take sealed with lots of power over ported with less power any day any time anywhere/

this makes me curious if my rlp would sound better sealed. it's not as loud and doesn't seem to go as low as my old si mag 15", but then again this is only a 12" and with half the watts the old mag got (750 watts via cadence amp for the rlp). it's in a 2 ft^3 ported box tuned to 27hz. it should hit the low notes in late night tip well... but it really doesn't. paranoia now!!

big difference in a mag15 and rl-p 12, or any 15 vs 12 for that matter..especially when the 15 gets more power. not really a fair fight or comparision.

and my rl-p in 2.5ft^3 @ 28 hz hits late nght tip with authority. what's up with everyone's rl-ps? and in it's normal sealed box, 1.25ft^3 net, it's one awesome sub! personally, that's my favorite box.

do you have the 15" or the 12"? might build a new sealed box sometime just for shits and giggles to see how much more tight it can sound.

i have a first gen (painted matte black cone) 12" rl-p. i've owened it for about two years or so and have yet to not have it hit lower then any other 12 i've listened too, save the rl-s and the L7, s12x. in any box.
