i usually rip dvds with no compression but these 4-7 gig movies are doing numbers on my hard drive space... my 200 gig has like 10 gigs left... anyway does anyone know of any good dvd rippers?? im hoping to rip my dvds to a compressed wmv or mpg format... maybe compress it to 700 megs per movie

i just downloaded imtoo and it seems to work ok.. if any one know of any better ones are is currently using one im all ears... i also have dvd shrink but i don't think you can compress to mpg with it

Use AutoGK, it will compress to DivX or XviD and you can choose the size. Use DVD Decrypter to rip in IFO mode then load up the ifo file in AutoGK and go from there.

Programs you need:

DVDShrink

AnyDVD

Daemon Tools

AutoGK

The steps I use:

1. Run AnyDVD for copy protection in the background and use DVDShrink in "reauthor" mode to rip the main movie and main soundtrack

2. Save the file as an .ISO file on your hard drive

3. Mount the .ISO image with Daemon tools and open AutoGK

4. Point AutoGK to the main .IFO in the image, select your output folder/file name,

5. Choose file size...my recommendations...

1.5 hr movie...2.1gb(choose 2101mb or 1199 or AutoGK will split it into 3 files)

2hr movie...2.5gb

3+hr movie...3gb

**I bump it up a few hundered mb if the soundtrack is DTS

6. Keep all advanced settings on auto. Cllick "add job" and then click "start"

AutoGK will scan the file, choose a good resolution and run a 2 pass reencode

It takes about an hour for me on a dual core pc, if you have a slow pc expect it to take at least a few hours

Have fun:)

dvdfab decrypter works wonders. alot easier than most of the other programs. Also you'll need DVDShrink to make a dvd of the file you get from DVDfab

Hes looking to compress them...

DVDFab is pretty good, its what I use most of the time. if That doesn't work I use DVD Clone..that always works and will compress them as well..

And if that doesn't work...well...I use one program that I cannot think of the name of at the moment as its on my Desktop. But it automatically uses DVD Shirnk, Decrypter and some other bullshit. Its pretty powerful. But usually if you just wait a week or so, DVDFab will update and will do it by itself...

If you need any programs to Rip, Decrypte or compress PM me...

I use DVDFab and convert to Divx with Dr. Divx. Movies are ~700megs, and still good quality.
I am guessing you scrap the 5.1 audio then, cause that takes up about 500mb alone, about 800mb for DTS.

I can live without true surround, DPL2 is good, but not good enough

You can make decent rips at 1.4gb using 5.1 sound, but that requires an encoder like CCE using 6+ passes which takes a ton more time. 2-3gb per movie using xvid seems to be a good mix of time and quality for me:)
