RIP: JBL p650C woofer, wtf to do?

So i'm drivin down the road just listening to some music, like volume 18/50, nothing loud at all, when i hear this terrible sound and now it barely makes anything out of my left front comp woofer.

I bought these babies on ebay off some guys ebay store, but I think im pretty screwed for warranty. What do you guys think I should do? Get some more cheap ( ebay? ) , or buy from like sonixelectronics for a little more but then have a reciept?

Or even more xtreme, change brands? I loved my 650's right up until the one died. And hell, i still love them, its just like losing a testicle, you still love the other one....

I bought a set of JBL comps from an e bay seller and had the same thing happen, my tweets went poof within like 6 months and the guy I bought them from does not offer warranty.

from that experience alone i wont be buying JBL speakers or from e bay for my next purchase.

I've been a big JBL fan before; with my floorstanding speaker and whole system JBL, but i'm thinkin about changing brands now; at least to test out other options. I know my midbass was pretty awesome so I hope other comp setups are comparable. perhaps Quarts?

Also I'm going to buy from an actual store so I'm eligible for warranty, we are sacrificing a lot just for a couple bucks off :-\

Don't not by a product because of one bad experince....JBL makes some of the best product on the market so the real question in both cases should be "what" caused the failure of both products. I've been in the business for well over 20+ yrs and it's been my experince that equip very rarily "just up and fail", not saying that it can't happen because it can, but in most cases there will always be some outside contributing factor. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If you'd like to keep you JBL tweets, I'd suggest keeping an eye on ebay for Illusion Audio Luccent LM-6 mids. There's a guy who sells them (new) from time to time for just $45 shipped. I have a pair I'll be installing over the Christmas break. I haven't heard them yet, but the people who have say they sound pretty durn good, and for just $45, why not give 'em a try?

I bought 2 pair of JBL comps on ebay a couple of years ago, one pair for my car and one for my wife's. Within a couple of weeks, one driver in each gave it up. I never cranked mine, and I guarantee my wife never did.

That sucks that your and your wife's speakers died. I have cranked mine loud before and they were fine, but this was spontaneous. I'm going to rip apart my setup to hopefully try to get to the bottom of this mystery

I've had issues with internet purchases before as well, which is why I am reluctant to buy stuff online. They may say the offer a warranty, but keep in mind that there's no one to go ***** at when you do everything through the computer screen. That's why I went with the References, they were available and I knew if I had a problem I could return them. Also being in Canada shipping is usually overkill and then there's brokerage, and that's from the 5-10% of ebay sellers who will even ship here.

Anyway, I have JBL subs and had JBL speakers and I've never had a problem with their reliability. A+ in my book.

I would contact the store (worst that can happen is they say "no")... many offer in-store warranties... those are the only kind I will deal with.

I had a set of the JBL Power Series Components before I put the pioneer premier prs 720's in and I must say I like the jbl's much better. For one they are much louder. Second They have excellent midbass. Third the tweeters are loud as hell and sound durn good. I made a big mistake to think there is better sounding stuff out there for 250 bucks because there isn't. JBL is on top of there game right now. There shit is hard to beat for the money.
