They sell memorial t-shirts here and stand around on the intersections with buckets.

I don't know the details, but I believe he did not have life insurance. Hopefully that is a lesson everyone can learn from.
Did he have dependents? If not, why would he need life insurance?

I don't know the details so I won't comment on how/why he died.

If you have dependents, you should get life insurance.

I don't think any "fundraiser" is going to help the wife. Hopefully, she is strong and independant or she can move back in with her folks while she grieves.

To cover costs of death etc. And I believe he was married. I know very little about the guy outside of a few moments at SBN.

In this case, she would be liable for those costs. Health insurance may cover some.

But dying is fairly cheap. I have a living will. If I die right now, my parents make $600 and get to keep my estate.

No, as I already mentioned, the lesson to he learned here is don't be a douchebag with your car in public. If you can manage that, you won't get killed, and won't need to worry about life insurance.

Just a wife.
Where anywhere does it say "he was being a douchebag in his car"? I must have missed that, how do you know it wasnt just a random killing because some stupid person was jealous of say his car? Shit like a random killing happens all the time.

I have no idea on the details. Bryan thought it was a good idea and helpful towards Davids wife, and just asked if we were ok with it, and I said yes.

I understand you were just trying to help.
I am more interested in the nuts and bolts of why there is always a need for a fundraiser.
I was under the impression it was doing something nice for someone who just lost a loved one that might need money to cover the costs.

denim -- Just so we are clear, I understand you are just doing what everyone else does and is trying to help someone in need. It's not a mockery of you. It's wondering. Perhaps someone here has been there and can better explain.

It is my personal opinion that costs are high because funeral homes take advantage of people.

I understand, and agree. When my father passed, it was quite expensive, even in 1988. Him being diabetic, he could not get approved for all that much when it came to life insurance, luckily my parents were prepared ahead of time in case.
