i'd have a hard time adjusting to a car with no torque, and i've always been a german car buff myself, but i'll admit any day of the week, the japanese auto manufacturers are 2nd to none in engine design, efficiency, reliability, and head flow.

vtec heads flow better than an american or german head could ever dream of, regardless of how much machining you put into it.

you show me any other engine that can flow enough cubes to run a smooth boosted torque curve past 9k, and i'll join in the hate.
