In response to American cars not having much racing history... 1 man comes to mind.. Ed Pink. Read last months Hot Rod and you will see the wide variety of teams wins he has created.

-His DFX engines powered 6 Indy 500 contenders and ultimately won it

-He made the old 183ci Porsche 962 engines that ultimately caused restrictions on turbod GTP cars

-Other drivers that use his engines have had over 100 feature wins- 9 USAC national championships

-Americans were the first to pioneer the functional use of a wing with the 57' vette at the Bonneville flats

-Some of Nissan's road-racing engines are made by Mark Honsowetz
