RF P4004 Specs

I went to my local car audio store and I'm leaning toward the Rockford Fosgate P4004. I looked online to find reviews and spec on it but I coudn't find anything on the THD or signal-to-noise ratio. One online store listed the signal-to-noise was >80. Most other amps I have seen are in the mid 90's or higher. Also the amp claims 50x4 @4ohms, but I've heard that was underrated by as much as 50%. Could the signal-to-noise ratio be underrated or does it even really matter?

Most amplifiers have their power output rated at 1% THD, including the P4004 given that it's CEA-2006 compliant. So that is a nonissue.

And the SNR isn't low enough to make an audible difference, so that's relatively unimportant aswell.

Thanks. I noticed today that another car audio shop in my town sells Memphis amps. I'm going to stop by there to check on prices but would their PR100/4 be comparable to the RF P4004? I've heard nothing but good things about Memphis so I'm curious to see if it would be a better option for me.

RF has the manual for the P4004 online here: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=454

It says >80 for signal to noise so I bet it is well enough over to be inaudible. I have an old RF Punch 100ix which has taken a ton of abuse and still works after almost 15 years.

I recently got an RF Power T8004 and a Power T10001bd. The Power series are really built like a brick s**t house. I know lots of people say RF isn't what it used to be but then it seems like once any brand is available at large retailers people automatically assume the quality has dropped. I think the real issues with RF is you pay for the name. I went with RF cause I got them at a going out of bussiness sale. I've heard good things about Memphis as well, so I'd check the birthsheets on the two models if you can and if they are similar let price determine which way you go.

And they do seriously under rate their power specs. See:

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/amp_power_output.asp

My RF Power T8004 which is spec'd at 4x50 at 4ohms is 4x124 on the birth sheet.
