RF *****-ana 100x2?

So I've seen on various forums that the *****-ana amps from RF are some of the most rare or most coveted of the RF amps. There's a guy selling one on Craigslist, and from the pictures it looks like new. How much should I pay for this bish, and what should I realistically see from this amp?

Here's the only picture I can really give you. He sent me a larger version of this, along with pictures of the ends, but they're nothing special. The amp looks like it's been taken care of.

The *****-Nova amps are rare and coveted. They're a Halfer design with lots of balls and outstanding SQ. Very warm sounding and very tough amps. Only a few amps in Rockford's history used that topology and they're all 'Power Series'. I think the last one was the 1100a2...so it's been a while.

*****-ana were the lower-end amps that replaced the DSM series. Between the two; most RF fans prefer the DSMs (the Punch 200 & 4020 in particular) as they produced a little more power. Some say the *****-ana amps sound better, some say the opposite...who knows.

That amp, in VCG, should run you no more than $150...maybe $175 if it's really clean. That amp, realistically, will have over 400w of output bridged and will sound louder than most 700-1000w D-Class amps. Even though the *****-ana amps were the lower line, you gotta remember that this was back when RF made some of the best 12v amps in the world.

The lower

More pictures, and a question. As you can see in one of the pictures, the bottom plug is missing. Super bad news, or no? He's also selling a 120a2 with no end caps for a LOT cheaper than this. I think I'll pick them up if for nothing more than to be able to say I own more amps.

The missing plug doesn't mean anything. Those things are a PITA to remove w/o damaging them or the amp anyway.

There's NO comparison between the 100x2 & 120a2. The 100x2 will mushroom stamp it when it comes to power. This isn't to say the 120a2 is a bad amp, it's just the older black BBQ grill style amps were more under rated from the factory than the later amps. A 120a2 would be better compared to a Punch 60 than a 100x2.

I know it wasn't a comparable amp; I was just saying he's got it for sale as well. The missing plug thing is good news. I'm most definitely picking these up in the next few days.

Since you seem to know a lot about these older amps, what do you have to say about the 100z2? Someone's selling one in nice condition for $40 on my local Craigslist as well. There seems to be a lot of older RF amps for sale lately.
