Replacing my subwoofers

My subs seem to be blown and I am wondering what speakers to replace them with. I have a 1200 watt mono mtx amp and wanted to get your guys input on what kind of speakers, brand and size, you think would be best for my car, mazda 3 sedan. The two 12's I had were mtx that hit pretty hard and wondering if I should stick with the same brand as my amp or get something different. I would like to spend no more than $400 and I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to car audio and not really sure which brands are better for any kind of setup so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I've been reading alot of reviews and are kicker subs really bad as far as sound quality? I listen to mostly music with lots of bass, i.e. rap, reggae, hip hop so if i were to get kickers would i still notice the poor sound quality? I also was interested ina couple mtx subs but would i lose alot more loud bass with these as opposed to the kickers?

I don't know alot about amps and subs but my amp a mono channel and says its primary ratings is 350 watt rms at 4 ohms and secondary rating is 600 rms at 2 ohms, with that said, when I decide exactly which subs to get should they be 2 ohm or 4 ohm? I'm looking at two alpine dual voice coil 12's with a 500 watt rms rating but can get them in 2ohm or 4ohm.

1 sub ported @ 600w RMS would sound better.

I recommend a PG RSDC 12" Dual 4 ohm Excellent SQ and very good output.. Extremely efficient sub.

Can be had UNDER 100 dollars as well.

I don't know alot about ported enclosures but is there any point in buying a a vented one online if its not custom made for the subs that I'm looking at? I see alot of boxes for sale at various sites but am not sure if buying one of these that is not custom fitted would be any better than a prefab. any insight?
