Replacing a Tempest

I've got a decent budget SQ set up with a 15" Tempest in a 4^3 box tuned to 28Hz. Powered by a PG amp that does 500watts @4ohms. Will do about 1000 @2ohms which limits my choices.

I'd like more output, with the same or better SQ. Considering one of the following set ups in a ported box:

2 12" Assassins

1 15" Arsenal

1 15" SS Rl-p

1 15" Brahma (if they ever come out)

Obviously the Assassins are the cheapest, and local so I could pick them up. Anyone running the Assassins, do you think that would be an upgrade over the single Tempest? If so I'd jump on that one as it could be done in a day.

Not sure if a single Arsenal is really an upgrade , but the Rl-p looks pretty nice.

Really want a Brahma, but tired of waiting. I need something that will do decent SQL with about 1000@2ohms as I'm not buying another amp. TIA...Mike

The 2 12s have almost 50 sqare inches of area over the single 15. It might be louder, but its hard to tell as no one that I know of has actually metered 2 12s in a decent ported box. Unlike your other choices, whcih have been metered I might be the first to actually meter the assassins that ive seen, but its not 2 12s its 4 8s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I vote two 12s. Just because your local and they would be cheap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Old Tempest I've had for about 5 years. Was a left over from a dual Tempest sub in the house. Now I have 2 17^3 dual Tempest subs, so this was was sitting and I decided to toss it into the car.

I would think the PE sub would be the same at best. NO room for another Tempest as I don't have room for that big of a box. It's in the trunk of an Altima, so the 4^3 is about perfect.

I'm near Gurnee, by Six Flags, so AA is about 45 minutes away. I'm going to call Chad tomorrow and see what he thinks about the 2 12's vs what I have now. He's been very cool to deal with. With that much more square inch of driver it "has" to be louder. Not an SPL monster, just more than what I have now.

I'm running the poly mids/Vifa tweets active with a Helix amp, JBL coax's for rear fill and a Kenwood Excelon HU. Have about $800 invested and VERY happy for the money.

I did discover one of the major rattles in my car is the mids hitting the door panels on max excursion. Going to have to space the panels out a little farther...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
