Repairing a blown 15

Friend of mine bought a p315d4 and a rockford 1000 watt amp at least 8 years ago. We didn't know jack about car audio, bought a sealed box that might have 1.2' of space. We installed it in his 76 beetle (with his 2 audiobahn 12's) so it had no back seat basically. It all worked for about a week then the 15 started making a "BRAAAAAP" noise. It seems like the voice coil might be blown? What I'm getting at is, do you think it would be worth fixing? I plan on doing all the work myself (fairly electrically inclined) Anyone have any advice?
