Removing Superglue From Gauges?

One of my friends is trying to remove a set of indiglo gauge overlays that he put on his car. He used superglue to adhere the new overlays to the stock plastic overlays, and he needs to find a way to remove the superglue without hurting the stock overlays. We've tried acetone nail polish remover, but that melted the plastic (lucky it was a hidden part.)

Any suggestions on what to use?

I'm confused what is glued to what ( i've never swapped guages), but superglue is a very brittle bond. If the glue left fume marks polishing or wetsanding the area is the only way.
