Remove power steering = more power?

kcdc, there is a big difference in driving a car that never had power steering and one that is malfunctioning or removed. As stated above, cars that never had PS have a diffeent gear ratio to allow easier steering

that makes sense. i stand corrected.

Sounds like the slowest race ever. An NA Eclipse and a V6 Firechicken.... The fact that it beat one of GM worst mistakes, doesn't mean shit. Pulling the P/S on a car will yield a handful of HP at most. No amount of HP is worth leaving yourself in that kind of danger. I'd like you see you swerve to miss a stalled car, or correct a spin with no P/S. When cars came with no P/S, they also have a different steering box ratio, to make it easier to turn, but they could not turn as tightly, and they had quite a few more room from lock to lock.
I have to ask ferendon what do you drive?

dont tell me let me guess, its the red neck ferrari???? aka the fox body mustang?

put it back in. it's like 2 hp. some idiot i bought a car from did the same thing. completely removed the pump and lines. left teh ps rack though, so it ws a ***** to steer at slow speeds.

i bought some junkyard parts, put it all back together and was much happier and just as fast.

My gf's power steering pump ****ing blew the **** up on me when I was taking her car to get her brake lines fixed... So here I was going down a 30mph limit road with no power steering or brakes. It its def a ***** to steer a car that is supposed to have PS and doesnt. ****ing talk about trying to turn...

put it back on theres not much HP gain at all, get some underdrive pullys you'll have the maybe 5 hp gain when the power steering was gone but now you'll have 5HP with power steering. if that makes sense to you...........

I say leave it off. if you can hack the hard turning at low speeds.

While driving you barely notice the difference in hard steering, but the feel is much better.

Power steering is for wimps. I noticed a nice gain from removing it. most likely around 5hp freed up(it does not create hp from removing, just frees up wasted hp) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
