Remote on: direct connect to battery

Hello,

Have seen posts where people suggest connected amplifier remote on directly to +12v on battery just to test that the amp works in order to debug problems.

Wondering if it is possible/makes sense to connect the remote on of the amp directly to the battery permanently, but insert a switch on the line (located in the cabin) that can then be used to turn the amp (e.g. for subs) on and off as wanted.

If so, I guess a small fuse on this line would be a good idea, but not sure how small, or if this works?

I guess they have now these remote bass controls to allow you to turn sub bass up and down; or lots of people just wire so that the fader controls how much bass.

make sure every cable that comes off the batt is fused (except for ground). you could do that...just when you turn your car off...the amp will stay on. you're better off using a relay

A 1/2 amp fuse would be fine. If you want continuous power and an external switch, I'd use a 12 volt line off your fuse block that turns on & off with the ignition. But why would you do this instead of running the remote to your head unit?

there was a discussion about this a few months back...and i think we came to the agreement that some hu's remote turn on has a very low amperage rating while some amps turn on's have high (not higher, just high) so when you use many amps...it might pull to many amperes from the hu. but i guess it all depends on the case by case scenerio....plus the fact that if it shorts, your hu might fry....which is what happend to my old aiwa (thank god //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif)

How did you do the hookups- pull out the main HK amp and replace, or something else?
