remote bass knob

ive got a rf 400s amp with a remote bass knob... i wanted to know if its a good idea to turn it up or not....and why?

I used to have that same exact amp. I tried setting it up with and without the remote bass knob, and I thought it sounded louder and cleaner when the knob was hooked up and turned up. For some reason it wouldn't hit as hard when the remote was unhooked. So, it is a good idea to hook it up & turn it up.

be careful turning it up too far...

What sub are you running it to and what are you gains set at? In my experience that last 1/4 turn on the bass boost adds a lot more power than the first 3/4..be VERY careful...I blew a Kappa Perfect that way

im using a "db drive" sub 300rms svc, and i havent turned the knob all the way up just in case... thanx for the advice i wont turn it all the way up.

You blew a Perfect with that amp??? I don't see how that could be.

I had a pair of MTX Thunder 4000's that were 200 watts rms, 400 watts max in a 2^3ft sealed box. Had the amp bridged and the bass knob turned all the way up. My gains were somewhere between half & 3/4 of the way up. They sounded fine and didn't even distort.

Perfects are not known to be very tough subs

you're right on that one

but were you running that amp to only one perfect or 2?

sure i see how you could blow one perfect with that amp, but with my past experience i doubt you could do it with a pair of them

You can easilly clip a signal with a remote "knob". The knob on my amp is a 15db boost which is dangerous especially with CD's that are not recorded at the same level etc.

if your sub is slightly underpowered, or you know people who have sent it alot more power and not had a problem, is it alright to turn the gains way up, even if its just for small amounts of time?

i have a eD15a and powering it with the suggested 800 watts rms from a avionixx 800.2 ive heard of people powernig the same sub with like jbl1200.1s and pg 1200.1s, can i trun my gains way up and still be okay? just for those couple seconds minutes when i need to impress lol?
