what's hip hop to you? lil john? hip hop is biggie, jay-z, nas, eminem, jadakiss. EMINEM ISNT HIP HOP? yea right your crazy.
I don't listen to Lil John. Only thing worth listening to consistently from the south is Outkast. I'm just telling you that those Eminem studio albums are not Hip Hop. And all of your above mentioned rappers to me kinda were on the right track then the money got involved. Hip hop is more than the section you bought the album from at FYE or where ever.

Since you obviously need to be schooled a little, get a notepad and jot down some of these artists.

I consider KRS-ONE/Boogie Down Productions, De La Soul, Eric B and Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas (before I AM) Common (before his beef with Ice Cube) Hip Hop, and I can go on..... Hip Hop died pretty much in like 1996.

Your above mentioned artists are ok. I actually own a lot of their work, but it's not Hip Hop. It's Rap. If you think they are the same, they are not Brah. Go download you a Roots Tipping Point and then play that Eminem album again and tell me the difference. 99% of this bullshit that they put out is not Hip Hop. So stop referring to it as such.

I disagree i would consider nas, biggie, NWA, etc. to be rap. Hip-hop is lil jon and other things that are catchy and make you want to dance and such.

Eminem's older stuff was rap. Rap=stories told with rhyme and meter where hiphop is a black person(most of the time) with some cool beats.

No. Not now, not ever.

You are 100% correct and beat me too it. Nas's illmatic is one of my favorite albums ever. Outkasts ATLiens and aquemini were amazing and they still put out great stuff IMO. I touched on the rap thing in my other post. You sir are correct.

I saw yours though I disagree with the Lil John part. Him and hip hop should never be mentioned in the same sentence. I have no name for that shit they got out now. You can't put Soulja Boy in the same category as a Rakim.

No. Not now, not ever.
i would consider nas's old albums to be rap as well. What in your opinion is the difference between rap and hiphop?

Rap to me is stories told... lines with matching meter, rhyme, and bunches of elements of poetry.

Hiphop is pretty much everything else. Songs that are made to make money and make people dance. Most people dont know the lyrics to "hiphop" because they are just grooving to the beat and could give a hell what the "artist" is saying except for the hook.

For example NY state of mind by Nas has no hook, he just goes and goes.... main stream stuff on the radio plays the hook millions of times over and over... it require way less skill and effort to create hiphop as it does rap. IMO.

Its growing on me. I like half the songs. Im a huge eminem fan tho. Insane is one hell of a fvcked up song tho.

Verse 1

I was born with a dick in my brain yeah ****ed in the head,

my stepfather said that I sucked in the bed,

till one night he snuck in and said, "we're going out back- I want my dick sucked in the shed",

can't we just play with Teddy Ruxpin instead?,

"After I **** you in the butt get some head,

bust a nut get some rest",

the next day my mother said "I don't know what the ****s up with this kid,

the bastard won't even eat nothin he's fed,

he just hung himself in the bedroom he's dead",

"Debbie don't let that ****er get you upset,

go in there stick a ****in' cigarette to his neck,

I bet you he's faking it, I'll bet you I'll bet,

he probably just wants to see how upset you would get,

I'll go handle this of course unless you object?"

"Aw go **** his brains out if any's left in his head"

Chorus

If you could count the skeletons in my closet,

under my bed and up under my faucet,

then you would know I completely lost it,

is he nuts? NO, he's insane,

If you could count the skeletons in my closet,

then you would know I completely lost it,

is he nuts? NO, he's insane.

Verse 2

Did you get him? Naw the ****er tried to bite my face off,

I just got ****in' chased off with a chainsaw,

then he took the chainsaw bit the ****in' blades off,

ate the blades stuck a baseball in a slangshot,

then he aimed at his own face let the thang pop,

took his eye out picked it up and played pang-pong,

then he played pang-pong with his own dang dong,

that mother****er's got nuts like Kang Kong,

then he set the lawnmower out on the dang lawn,

and he laid all up underneath it with the thang on,

then he took his pants he took every ****ing thang off,

everythang 'cept his tank to and his training bra,

ain't he raw? Yeah, maniac that's Shady dog man that mother****er's gangsta, ain't he dog?,

Shady dog what be goin' through that ****in' brain of yours?,

say no more, what the **** you waitin' for sang along,

Chorus

Verse 3

Don't you know what feltch means? Yeah- well then tell me,

would you rather get fetched or the feltching?,

**** 'em in the *** **** the come out while you're belching,

(burp) burp belch and go back for a second helping,

can you dig what I', sayin' man can you smell me?,

I want you to feel me like my stepfather felt me,

**** a little puppy kick the puppy while he's yelping,

Shady what the **** you saying? I don't know help me,

what the ****s happening? I think I'm ****ing melting,

"Marshall I just love you boy I care about your well being",

No dad I said no, I don't need no help peeing, I'm a big boy I can do it by myself see,

I only get ***** when the babysitter tells me,

she showed me a movie like "Nightmare on Elm Street",

but it was X and they called it "Pubic Hair on Chelsea",

"well this one's called "*** ****" and were shooting the jail scene",

It started dying in 96, but I dont think it completely fell off until 03/04 when the south started to dominate. The music wasnt good, but decent. And how dont like common now?

Yeah i guess i understand that.... Becuase i didnt know what to call it i just separated these songs into 2 genres, hiphop and rap. If it didnt fall into the rap category i threw it in the hiphop.

I think you forgot some people but hit it on the head. I wouldve liked to see raekwon, Rza, Gza, Maybe Meth and Red, And more of the Wu Tang Peoples and older bone thugs ( Look Into my eyes, why do i stay high, First of the month, Days of our lives )

Eminem is an amazing lyricist but i think he has a work ethics problem, hes rich now so why work at it. Theres ntohing else he can do really. I bet if he went bankrupt and was on the verge of losing everything and decided to do an album it would be hotter than imaginable. But untill then we get his playful side that isnt really that great. Ill buy the CD and check it out cuz im a true Em fan. But he isnt on top of his game anymore.

It's like the opposite.......well almost. At one time what did and still does make money was that gangsta shit. NWA, Ice T. Geto Boys etc. Killing on wax was what was selling. I mean it all has to have have a rhyme pattern and all of that, but dig this......

You said you loved illmatic right? Now imagine AZ and Nas doing Life's a bytch without music in a hallway or a cypher as it's called. That's hip hop. Now put Lil John or Soulja Boy in that same cypher and that shit doesn't work. They can't freestyle, hell they can't even write 16 bars. For them it's the beat that brings people not the lyrics.

So it requires a lot more skill by my definition of hip hop.

Yeah i guess i understand that.... Becuase i didnt know what to call it i just separated these songs into 2 genres, hiphop and rap. If it didnt fall into the rap category i threw it in the hiphop.

No, wrong. If you want a good idea about how hip-hop is supposed to sound, listen to some old school Wu tang Clan.

It started dying in 96, but I dont think it completely fell off until 03/04 when the south started to dominate. The music wasnt good, but decent. And how dont like common now?
Kinda why I said 96. I think Resurrection dropped that year. As did Fugees the Score. Common last albums were decent with the K-West production, but they are no where near Resurrection. I guess I am biased because I walked the same streets he did and know a lot of the spots he spoke of. Like on Nuttin to do.
