Refurbished amp still as good as new?

In my past experiences with refurbs, I have had issues with all of them. They were mainly amps, and I have to say, I would never buy a refurb again. You are dealing with somebody elses headache. You might luck up also........

it all depends on the company in my opinion. i have had good luck with refurbs before. but i also know people who have had horrible luck. if it comes with a warranty, make sure its somewhat of a good warranty, and you will be alright.

I have two experiences with refurbished products:

1) Bought a refurb Kicker KX350.4. It kicked ***. No problems, nothing, great amp.

2) Bought a refurb Profile 100x2@4ohm amp, from profile, and it blew up (yes exploded) my crossover. I had to wait 2 months for a new one. Needless to say i got a full refund.

Buy from a good, reputable company, and you should be fine.

i see, i m having a hard time deciding whether i should go ahead score that amp off ebay from a car audio shop that refurbished it..

I think i might prefer the amp to be refurbished by its original factory that makes same amps..

i would only buy onen if it was refurbed from the company that made it to begin with. if u think about it, they are the one's that desigined (sp?) it, so they sould know it better than anyone else. i've only bought a kenwood refurb amp that was done by kenwood, it's never let me down yet.

If it's a factory refurbished amp, in this case it was sent to JBL to be fixed, then it's probably equal to or better than it's original state. However, cosmetically it may be worse, because it is still used.

That's not a refurb... that's a used amp that has been repaired. There is no such thing as a refurb that does not come from the manufacturer... darn scamers.

That's like going to a yard sale and the owner telling you his for sale 30 year old couch with mothballs in it is a scratch-and-dent.

Have you ever purchased anything at BestBuy? Or purchased a used amp from a friend or friend of a friend? Then you have owned a refurb. Bestbuy sells B-stock, some audio stores sell B-stock/refurb on sale without informing the buyer. I've bought both and never incountered any different problems than with a new item, except with the lenght of the warranty. No factory will grant auth. to any clown to repair their equipment.

...Bestbuy sells B-stock,...
i'd be curious to know if you have a reputable link (or more) to back that up?

a true "factory refurb" *should* be pretty good, although cosmetically (as someone else noted) it might be beat up a bit... would it be as "good as new"? that would depend on the factory doing the refurb. some may replace virtually everything that might fail (in which case it's basically "new") others may just fix the broken part and "test" the rest of it to ensure it's in reasonable tolerance...

I bought a Kicker kx2500 refurb from HiFi Sound Connection that was blown when I got it. Kicker fixed it for for free though so it just cost me shipping one way to get it fixed. For the price difference I think it's worth it as long as you get a warranty.
