refunds from paypal?

so i had a bad deal on ebay... bought a used "like new" condition w505 and it arrives with a big scratch in the center of the face. i told the seller, he said he wouldn't refund me and to take it up with paypal.

opened a paypal dispute which he escalated to a claim, a few days later they send me an email asking me to ship it back to him, and that they'll refund me the money once its delivered.

i've heard that paypal can't take any money out of someones bank account, only if they have that money in their paypal balance, and that if they don't have the money in their paypal account, it can't be taken. what i'm wondering is if he never puts any money back into his paypal account, is it possible he could end up with the head unit i ship back to him and i'll never see my refund?

Don't send it back to him. Make sure paypal put a hold on his account or something to make sure he has the money in his account so you won't get screwed. Because if he doesn't have any money in his account you're basically screwed unless you paid with a cc

Why not this? If you won the case than paypal covers you..You just have to provide paypal with tracking.

This happened to me about a month ago on an amp I bought from ebay. I got in a big pissing match with paypal. I ended up just eating it, because I did not trust getting my money back. And why is it that you (buyer) are the one who has to jump through all the hoops. And not only that, but you are out the money it takes to ship the junk product back

call paypal.. ask them if they have a hold on his money and if he has money to begin with.. ask what they will do if they don't
