Reducing Rattle in an SUV?

So I just installed my new Sundown X-15, and threw in some JL MS-62c speakers off an Alpine amp I had laying around and they are getting about 75 rms per speaker. When I have the sub turned up loud there is lots of rattle coming from the rear, definitely the car, anyone know if there is a way to silence this or is it something to live with as you upgrade subs? Car is a '99 Cherokee. Also would it be advisable to turn the HPF higher (From ~80 to ~100-125) so that the speaker can play louder and keep up with the sub without distorting trying to play the lower end of things? Just curious since this is my first time playing with bigger subs.

You need to install deadener in the roof, the quarter panels and on the gate in order to stop most of the rattling. Other rattles often come from interior trim panels and they can usually be tamed by installing a foam gasket behind the offending panel.

Deadening also has other benefits such as acting as insulation against heat and cold as well as quieting road noise and it improves sound quality and pressure, even on low powered systems. It should really be the first thing on your list if you plan to have a nice sounding system.

As for the crossover points, yes, you can raise the high pass to make the mids perform better.

i fought awfull rattles with the interior plastic trim pannels in my old 84 corvette. ended up using sound deadner material to cover each overlap of where one piece meets another and joins. but with a 18 in the hatch back there i eventually just removed a few panels of plastic trim that just would not quiet down. ( i hate rattles )

a good idea is to poke around back there while playing some music to see wich panels and or areas are doing what and making what sounds.

then you can devise a plan to make them quiet. sound deadning / foam weatherstriping / double side foam tape / spray foam - use caution with spray foam tho...

o also i needed to ajust my latch on the rear glass so that it would hold it down tighter as the hoop latch would rattle in the closing mechanisim - that was hard to get ajusted perfectly so the rear glass would still close and latch fully but be super tight on the weatherstriping as to stop noisy rattles from that....
