you sturrin at me brah?
i'm reconing a heavyweight 10", and i've only done dd/aq recones in the past. so i'm used to the cone being attached to the voice coil, and i've never seen a plastic piece like this before.

i can see how it fits on there... but whats it for and how far down do i push it onto the voice coil? how is it glued to the coil/cone?

and i would notch the cone out for the solder joints. its hard to get the cone on without notching it and you could bend up the vc leads enough to snap them. so notch, put cone on. apply glue to cone and former joint. then put the **** ring on and then apply more glue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i'm also used to using the real thin plastic shims DD sends with their recones, and the only ones i have on hand are crinkled up some.

what do you use to shim, index cards?

something really flexible. you can just use the plastic shims if you still have them. they will work just fine. also...i didnt know Kicker made 1200ds? unless your talking about the older 1250s?

one more question... the cone is glued to the coil after the spider is already glued to the basket, right?

how do i know how far down on the coil to attach the cone?

yes. afterwards. the cone should sit on top of the spiders. there shouldnt be any type of gap.
thanks... ok, last question, seriously this time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i'm sure i glue the 2 spiders together, but you said something about putting a ring over them? there wasnt any ring with the recone, i was assuming the screws just went into the spider and i'd clamp the spider to the basket like with my dd recones. do i need to come up with a ring, or will it be fine this way?

i have see those pieces used under the spiders but not between the spider and cone on a papar cone. wouldnt use it.

notch ur cone so it fits over the leads easy. then put a heavy bead of ca around the former about 1/4" off where the cone sits. drop ur vc in the gap about center(no shims). push ur cone over the former, it will push the ca glue down and spread it on the cone and make a nice glue joint. spray will acc. remove recone assembly. now mix up some 5 min epoxy and pour it thick around the cone and former on the front of the cone. let it sit and dry couple hrs. then recone like you are use too...
