I'll get the specs tonight or tomorrow....and yes I understand the cost issues but I'm not too concerned about it to have a unique sub. I'll let you guys know ASAP. Should I call JBL for my recone for the GTI?caliper measurements? if you can get those, i can see what i have around...i (and any one willing to help you) will need
I.D.
O.D.
W.W.
and need to know what impedance you want.
yes. i have some VERY nice/rare motors.. only problem is.. they are edgewound coilsYeah, car audio is a very abusive field... edgewound's aren't very tolerant to abuse //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif especially with the high current amps that are out today, instead of the high voltage amps of years past...where single and 2 layer coils were fine, now 8 layer coils can be hard to keep together because of the massive amounts of current that the 4kw amps are putting out at ~.5 ohms...
yeah.. jbl would probably be your best bet.. or maybe tim royI'll get the specs tonight or tomorrow....and yes I understand the cost issues but I'm not too concerned about it to have a unique sub. I'll let you guys know ASAP. Should I call JBL for my recone for the GTI?
I highly doubt they'd sell an expensive sub and not be able to get a recone for it. Thats like saying you can't get a recone for a W7. If not a recone then atleast a trade for a new one plus some cash....I'll call them in a few and let you guys know.Doubt very very very seriously if JBL will send you a recone, as they do not have any.
You may be able to pay for it and get another sub...
That coil in the GTi is a dual edge wound with ~30mm winding lengths that are i'd say ~20mm apart wound on a patented kevlar former. The gaps are opposing polarities, so in all reality there is only need for 1 spider. The motor controls the cone/soft part arrangement and keeps it in a linear fashion all the way through stroke (which is why you can burp them with 5-6000 watts). It can only move as much as the top gap will let the bottom coil enter it, and vice versa backwards for rearword excursion...
You could try to get ahold of JBL and see if you can pay to get it fixed, but as far as anybody else putting something together for it to work the way it is intended to work, it isn't going to happen.
Best of luck!
They throw them away brother, that's how they recone them, they replace them (it costs way more to stop production tear down a sub, clean it, rebuild it with new soft parts than it does to simply trash it and replace it)....i've had close ties withe JBL for years, and that's pretty much how it works.I highly doubt they'd sell an expensive sub and not be able to get a recone for it. So do you think I should do? Get the coil measurements and put a different coil in it? I'd rather not throw it out because the basket is in good condition and so is the motor.....They throw them away brother, that's how they recone them, they replace them (it costs way more to stop production tear down a sub, clean it, rebuild it with new soft parts than it does to simply trash it and replace it)....i've had close ties withe JBL for years, and that's pretty much how it works.
