A recone is the replacement of all the soft parts of the driver...it's far more economical and easier to replace everything at once than deal with replacing the VC only.
Well.....a recone is effectively a voice coil change.
A recone replaces basically everything except the basket and magnet.....this includes cone, surround, spider, VC former and voice coil.
There is no way to only change the voice coil, since the only way to get to the voice coil is to tear everything else out of the way. And normally when something goes wrong with the VC, it damages other components in the speaker aswell......

I thought it just replaced the cone and surrounding... So are reconed just as good as brand new seeing that the basket and magnet are in good shape???

Exactly. A reconed driver, as long as the basket and magnet are still aligned, is as good as a driver coming off the production line for the first time.

but cosmetic damage would be on the basket or motor, which usually people dont invert a sub so it wouldnt really be noticed, do they replace the rubber gasket? cuz mines not looking so good lol
