Recone for a Blind Person

Well in class today someone brought in an infinity house speaker. It had the 8" and a tweeter and a mid. Well the 8" surround had separated from the cone. They asked if we could fix it because the lady that uses them is blind and uses the sound of those speakers to get around her house. My instructor didn't know how to fix the surround so he asked if I did cuz he knows my interest in speakers. I have never done something kinda like a recone before so I got on here to look at the recone forums. Well i got all the epoxy glue off from the broken surround and he is ordering the new surround for me to put on. I am very glad I got to do this because now I will kinda know how to recone. I know there is more to it but at least I will know something about it. Plus it gets me out of class work:D

When redoing a surround it is nice to take off the dust cap and shim the coil to keep the alignment. not absolutely a necessity but it will prevent scraping in case you ****. A good refoam kit will have the surround, cap, and glue. I did it to a bunch of kicker comps without taking off the cap and they where fine but for smaller woofers with a tight gap shim it.
