Recommend a L.O.C. please!

My buddy owns a 2008 Ford Ranger... we are wanting to put a small 8" in his truck to add some small thump. He has a stock HU and we are going to need a L.O.C.

I'd check first to make sure the HU isn't killing the bass when you turn up the volume. In my Taurus the stock HU would stop adding bass after 2 volume bars, so I hardly got any bass unless I turned the bass knob way up and it sounded like mud.

How do you prevent that?

Also, is Stinger a good brand for this as well as the wiring kits?

To prevent that you'll either need a new head unit or a sound processor. If it's a 2008, hopefully it has a better system than the crap cars came with 10 years ago. Try turning up the volume and see if the bass gets any louder or if it's just the treble.

Stinger wiring is alright if you're on a budget. I used a Stinger LOC as well, it was not bad for the $10 I paid for it, but there's definitely much better ones out there.

Have you bought the amp yet? If not, you may want to look for one with speaker-level inputs. That way you won't need an LOC. Some also have other neat features like 4-channel input, so changing the balance or fade won't affect the bass.
