Rear View Mirror Adhesive Didn't Work

The other day my RVM fell off. I went to checker and bought the RVM adhesive. It didn't bond well enough to hold the mirror up. I followed instructions, and let it set for more then 8 hours. I put my mirror on this morning, and KURPLUNK, fell off again instantly.

The button on my mirror has a plastic cover on the side that goes to the window. I didn't know if I was supposed to remove it or not, so I kept it there.

Is the adhesive supposed to bond to the plastic cover, or should I take off the plastic cover, and have it bond to the metal?

I have been going through this for last 4 months (not in a hurry).. I think i am going to try a glass store and be done with it. GL

I have to slide the metal tab out when i do it.. Its a *****, on mine..

your suppose to take the metal tab out if thats what your asking. i had this ****ing problem with my mustang and it was a ***** to put on and take off. especially when it got really warm outside thats when it would fall off too. i had to reglue it a couple times and one time it fell off and took a piece of glass with it

Its the plastic layer on top im wondering about. It is on the side that sticks to the window. It will peel off.
