We got whippings occasionally growing up when we did something serious enough that the 'rents felt that physical punishment was warranted. I do not care about any of those people who feel corporal punishment is never warranted because I simply do not agree. My sister and I grew up as well-adjusted as anyone else and harbor no ill will towards our folks as a result. We never saw it (then or now) as abuse ~ we were just mad we got caught doing whatever we were doing wrong. For the most part, though, the threat of getting whipped was sufficient to subdue us from doing whatever we might have been thinking up.

Mom & Dad used to keep (actually I think it is still there) an aluminum yardstick hanging on a nail right by the door that leads from their garage into their kitchen. All they had to do was open that door and reach out into the garage to retrieve that metal stick of pain and instantly we would cease and desist whatever it was that prompted them to reach for it to begin with.

Kids should get whipped more often than they do nowadays. There would be considerably less insanity in the streets being caused by teenagers if their parents had taken the time to illustrate in no uncertain terms just where the kids came from occasionally in my humble opinion.

i concur. my son gets spanked on occasion. most of the time removing and item he treasures such as a toy or stuffed animal from his possession for a specific time works well. but occasionally, he takes it further than that

I never taped anything i did stupid. I never broke into any churches or anything but small fights & shit never ended up on video. ahem **evidence**

I do remember when i was 14 (6 years ago) I decided i was invincible and told my dad he was an "old punk *** *****" and i punched him. Granted that is when i figured out i wasn't invincible and my eye was swollen for 3 days. I have the utmost respect for them and how they disciplined me and my little brother. Never were beaten or anything but a ***** slap or something.

And i turned out great.

I think that kids now are too scared of getting hurt so they grab a gun.

It drives me nuts when I see kids that are eight or nine whining and screaming at their parents to "buy me this" or "I want to do this" or "Gimme Gimme". One day when I was at Best Buy there was a gentleman there whose child carried on screaming and kicking him. The child then ran to me and looked as if he was going to kick me, where I told the child "I'll kick you back!" His father got upset, told me I was an a-ho-le and took his kid up in his arms. I told him

he should disipline his child before he injures himself, or someone else.

I also seen a ten year old kid throwing rocks at a kitten... Pissed me off in the worst way cause the girl the kitten belonged to went to get her parents so the older boy would get in trouble.

*Some kids are getting dumber these days*
