This is no shit:

My mom took a "paddle ball" paddle and drilled holes in it so it was lighter. That was my beating stick, but only if my dad wasnt home.

If he was home then it was the belt. I could swear my dads belt was 3/4 " thick. I know it wasnt but when I was little it looked like it.

Usually he would just fold it and grab both ends then snap it. It sounded like a crack of thunder. My *** cheeks would instantly pucker and I would quit what ever I was doing.
