reading 20.1 ohms

something is obviously fucked up if your amp is going into protect. your impedence reading at the amp doesnt matter, all that matters is if you have it wired properly and you're not maxing out the gain and bass boost like a volume knob.

yes, it can be a variety of things. start by telling us how you have your subwoofer wired (be 100% sure before you tell us, verify it), and where your gains are set.

then tell us how you have your power/gnd/remote set up and how the RCA inputs are set or if you're using a different method.

the more detailed you can be with specifics the faster we can figure out where you have issues.

My subwoofer is wired positive 2 positive & neg 2 neg into the amplifier not bridged or anything ground wire too the side of the trunk. Bolt down wire to metal 4 gauge power wire and ground wire all gains on amp is right at 50% head unit gains bass/mid at 4 and loud is off on head unit....

Important note - your amp is going to read from 0 - 20+ ohms due to frequency changes.

Your sub ohm reading is the only thing that matters because when connected to a amp, if the sub is improperly wired it will trying to run on an ohm not stable for amp.

If trying to figure out imp/box rise you need a dmm and clamp meter.

Do not worry about your amp in your case. If the amp is going into protection without a sub connected then your amp needs to be diagnosed for bad connection and/or burned circuits.

If its only messing up with the sub connected check your sub wiring and make sure the subs leads are not touching metal.

Thanks for the advice
You said you have your gain turned up to 50% on a west coast customs amp.... This is your protection mode problem right here... Way to high depending on your pre out voltage from hu...
