RE XXX: 12" Ported or 15" Sealed?

I have searched on topics related to XXX and alot of it was wishy-washy to me, so I was not sure, and decided to make a thread about it on exactly what I needed.

Due to trunk space limitations, I seriously doubt I can fit a 15" ported box into my trunk, unless it was built inside the car, which I cant do since I dont have the time. Im really interested in a RE XXX because it seems to be talked about alot, and I want something that pushes more than my 12" Fi Q in a 2.5 cubic feet, 32 hz ported box.

So I know a sealed box would mean better SQ, as ported box's usually go louder, but I really want to go for a 15" for once because it pushes more air and gets deeper, but it could only be sealed. Someone said to go sealed because it has alot of 'xmax' which I have no clue to what that means when it comes to a subwoofers specs and performance. So either sealed 15", or a 12" ported in like, 2.1-2.7 cubic feet box tuned to 30-32?

What do you guys think? I want my car to shake on the inside twice as much as the Fi Q does, it shakes pretty good, but I want an eargasm and drown out my speakers.

Ill be getting an Orion 2500D to push it to 2500 watts once I get an RE XXX sometime.

If I missed something you guys needed to help me, let me know.

Opinions are appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ooh, but it is said to handle 2000watts RMS though? I'd get a Hifonics amplifier that pushes 'rated' power at 2000watts, but everyone knows they are overrated. What would one recommend as a amplifier cheaper than an Orion 2500D and around 2000watts so I can match its RMS to the subwoofer?

Thanks alxmlr for the tip.

The new ones are 2k, but there also twice the price of an 05.

05's: theyre rated at 1600 Jmanpc put 2k on his, took it fine.

Ive got a sundown 1500d, and thats what i used on my xxx, mag, and DC level 4.

I say throw 1600-2k on an xxx and call it a day.

Alright, I can agree with 1600-2000 watts on an 12" XXX ported, that'll blow away a Fi Q 12" ported on 1200-1400 watts right?

If I search for an 05' XXX, wouldnt that mean they are used by other people, which is something I wouldnt trust really if they pushed them too hard?

I assume your Sundown 1500d is 1500 watts RMS? Which is 500 watts under though, does it still push it serious?

Can anyone confirm that an RE XXX is better than a Fi Q by a big margin? If so, Ill continue my pursue for an XXX.

Any other input is helpful. Thanks again alxmlr. Helpful posts.

Do you want the 05 or 06?.. im a little unclear about that.

I think the xxx takes the cake over the Q, but thats just my opinion.

If your looking for an 05 12" you're better off just buying a motor and reconing it to a 12, scott can help you out with that.

I would seal the 15, assuming you are talking about the 06-07 model. A 15 sealed is gonna move a lot of air no matter what, and with the XXX's insanely high xmax you could push it to its full potential in a sealed box.

IMO it might be louder than your Q, i dont see why it wouldnt.

Thanks for all the post guys, very helpful. This is what I like about this forum, members only bash the stupid people who ask stupid questions haha and yet you guys helped me alot with some decisions.

Im gonna think things over and see what happens in the next couple months.

Once again, thanks and I appreciate it all.

Edit: I might have to agree with Fargof, because it would move alot of air yes, and I also want to experiment with a 15" in my car, never had one before due to size limitations and such, but Ill make one fit if I choose to go sealed. Thanks.

it looks like the 15" XXX should do very well in a sealed box?!?!

quoted from another thread i had from member bk12321

you can use the EBP formula ( FS / Qes ) to give u a rough estimate of what enclosure the sub is suited for
90 is suited for ported.

so the XXX 15 comes out to like a 32-33ish

hmmm, i always though the high xmax would be better for a sealed box, i guess i overlooked some other factors. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

actually i was re-affirming what you suggested....i was quite suprized to see that tho. I thought iit was really suited to a ported enclosure over the sealed but if what i quoted is right then a sealed box should be wonderful for it.
