i bought 2 re se's a few weeksago put them on at 1ohm from a sundown 1200d and they filled the sealed box with smoke in less than 60 seconds witht he gain down more than half way . the amp got sent back found out it blew a a mosfet and they tell me one of the subs must have came new with a bad voice coil both are smoked now . re says no warranty done on multiple item purchases????? they said if it was one sub they would look at it since its both they wont fix either one and they tricked me into giving them my order number on my reciept so i cant send them in later that was bull shit and ill never use them again!!! re= retired early

Well was the original problem with the amp or the subs? And did you buy the subs direct from RE?

If you had a bad ground, causing bad voltage drops to your amp, the amp could have been producing some DC signal or clipping pretty badly resulting in a blown amp and blown subs. If this happened it's your own fault.

the amp did send dc tothe subs when the mosfet burned up all my grounds were good to the frame and sanded smooth . only thing i think it may have been was the amp was a refurb. and the 1ga ground terminal on the amp was melted like the metal the wire goes into when i got it . but they are saying it had to be a bad coil on the sub . bought the re's from a authorized dealer less than 3 weeks ago this all happened in less than 60 sec of ever having power on anything . the amp is fixed under warranty but now they want to send me another amp back instead of that one so theycan keep testing it more and now im waiting for them to fix another amp forme . not sure whats up with that either but now i dont have any subs . and i spent over $1500 for the subs ,amp, box, big3, alt.,rear batt.,and 1ga wire and fuses for everything . I made sure i did it right before i hooked anything up and even payed a shop to look it all ovwer before i put power to anything payed them $50 for that .

This would worry me. Melted terminal could equal a bad connection, causing the amp to clip the fawk out of the subs or the amp blew and took the subs there after. I wouldnt have powered it on if it was melted, nor would I have accepted it if I bought it new.

this is what i was thinking but everyone told me db-r backs thier work up and not to worry they now say they have the amp fixed butwant to fix another one to send back to me and it seems fishy to my but ihave heard nothing but good things about them and sundowns products . i have had a few people tell me that the melted terminal very well could have been the issue that set it all off but db-r still says it was the vc on a sub or a shorted speaker wire and i do doubt either but im still out of 2 subs

no matter what the reason was RE has gone down hill as well as killing US Amps

they are a horrible company anymore. id rather take my chances buying used subs from here.

i wansntaware about re before the last few days aboutthem going to shit but my little brother has a pair from the sameperson and i hooked them up with his crossfire vr1000d on my setup and it works fine . i just cant prove it either way to re or db-r about the cause

i just got this email from db-r on the amp

Shipping you the amp now. This one is NEW. It had a solder error (the factory forgot to put some solder in some places). I corrected it, replaced the bad parts that resulted from (about 6 of the power supply mosfets were bad) the missing solder and tested the amp it is fine. This one has never smoked or anything board is like brand new. It was a NEW amp that failed QC because when they hooked it up it at Sundown to test, it did not work. So you got a new amp. It's still considered refurbished and only has 1 year warranty but just wanted to let you know that it is new.

Looks like you had yourself a bad amp. Of course re ist going to replace your subs due to another companie/persons error... if you really believe that RE gave you bad subs then you can move on to litigation otherwise id ask whoever sold you the bunk amp to replace the speakers or at least re cone them.

So you bought a cheap amp that had missing solder connections? Someone related to the sale of the amp blames the sub(s) as being faulty? So I guess that means that there is no protection circuitry on the amp for a dead short on the speaker terminals? I fail to see how this could possibly be anything to do with a subwoofer. You bought a cheap bad amp, it toasted and took the subs along with it. The seller should be looking after the recones of the subs as well.

the solder issue ison the "new" amp they are sending me to replace the other one they want to keep now . they tell me that the burned chassis ground couldnot be the issue and that everyone who is telling me this well here is the email i just got in a responce:

Only someone who had no clue about how a car stereo amplifier actually works would say something like a burned chassis ground wire would cause clipping etc and dc blah blah.

I just going to put it to you this way:

A. Whoever the people you are talking to, don't know what the hell they are talking about.... LOL That's some funny stuff....

B. I would be after RE to send you some new subs. The only way the output mosfets in these amps blow is from shorted speakers. You also need to invest in a meter so you can properly check everything before you hook it up, or take it to a car stereo shop so when something goes wrong they are responsible...

C. There is no way dB-r is buying you new subs, we just cannot do that. You would have to take us to court
