re-sealing surround on a sub?

To make a long story shore I ended up with a brand new TC 1000 that leaks air out of the suround when placed into a sealed box. It's not a massive airleak but if I press on the center of the cone I can hear air leaking out (can't really feel it though unless I use my face to feel it and even then it is difficult.) The sub was only played for about an hour so it's basicaly brand new. I never would have even known it had an air leak had I placed it in a ported box rather than a sealed one.

Is there a way I can fix this leak or would the sub need to have a new surround put on it?

Would this small of a leak even matter in a ported enclosure?

I have to give props to TC for EXCELENT customer service. After being very frustrated with all the issues I have been having getting subs for my truck (not being able to find a second AA Assassin, Diamond Audio listing incorrect mounting depths and having to return the subs, and then my new TC woofer not sealing) it was a welcomed change of pace to get a break.

It sounds like the surround isn't properly glued to the basket. Email TC about it and they should take care of you.
They already have, they just didn't ask for the bad sub back...Maybe they will I dunno... I won't be using it anyways //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No dustcaps ont eh TC1000 that I am aware of, so I would imagien it is leaking from the sides of the surround, I'm having a hard time pinpointing I need another sealed box and sawdust or something...

yea lets get saw dust in the gap and catch it on fire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

you can put a bead of ca around the outside and that should fix it if its there, if its on the inside of the surround you can use silica based window replacement glue to patch any hole u find ,

lol No way man I would seal it as much as possible to find the leak then a simple one way press would shoot the sawdust out from to find out where it is leaking from.

But now you have me worried because I used polyfil in my box. :p Thanks for the tip, I guess I can and play now without much worries, worse case I destroy it the rest of the way.

When you say Inside of the surround you mean towards the cone, and when you say outside you mean towards the basket correct?

I was thinking inside was from under the cone and outside was ontop of the cone. Can you clarify?
