i have 2 RE 12's i got in that group buy a few months ago installed them about 2 months ago. i have a clarion 1000.1dpx pushing 250w to a vc on each sub, i dont have both vc's hooked up. theyre in about a 1.7cft per sub box. well ever since i remember when i just about have them maxed out they "knock" like the excursion is too much and its hitting whatever is behind it. it does it real bad on deeep deeep bass songs. and if i slowly push back on them itll eventually stop and make that "knock" noise.

is this normal on re 12s? i wouldnt think this is, and i dunno wtf the problem is but i dont usually turn it up or have it on a ddeeeeepp, im talking super deep bass song. so i dont really hear it and they sound fine

wtf is the problem!!!, thanks for the help

Any particular reason you only have one voice coil hooked up on each sub? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

b/c thats the only way i can wire it with my amp without it getting too complicated. who cars, i just want to know why my subs knock. are re's notorious for the "knock" or what?

No, they are not notorious for the "knock."

And "who cares"?

Well, you have your subs wired up terribly......so it stands to reason that they arent performing well. Its too "complicated" to follow a simple diagram of how to wire them correctly? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Anyway, sounds like youre sending them too much power....

i thought they were dual 4

man im a dumbass if theyre dual 2, that means im giving them about 500w a peice, but i swear i read they were dual 4

they are dual 4ohm, and it is very stupid only running one of the VCs of each speaker...

wire them (all VCs lol) to a final 4ohm load, trust me it isnt that hard. There are plenty of diagrams everywhere //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what are the ratings on ur amp also?

If your amp is stable at 1 ohm, wire it to 1 ohm, to give them the most power. Make sure you set your gains properly though, and since you wired only one of your VCs per sub, I suggest that you check out the gain tutorial in the amplifier section //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

my amp does

2x250 4 ohms

2x450 2 ohms

1x500 4 ohms

1x1000 1 or 2 ohms, i dunno im not gonna run 1000w to these

if i hook them both up in to make it 4 ohms and run the 1x500 would i be giving each sub 250w or each of them 500w? ive always been confused with that

It would be 250w per sub, I wouild wire it to 4 ohms then.
