Today i installed my friends speaker amp and he has only 1 set of pre amp outputs on his HU so i got a Y splitter RCA and its 1 input and 1 out and then it becomes 2 of each. i put em at hu and then ran em normal but does this like effect anything? like can i get them wrong? as long as outputs are in outputs and inputs and inputs im good right?

The connectors on a Y-splitter are only going to attach one way.

The only way to get one wrong is by buying a 1 female to 2 male when you should have bought a set that is 1 male to 2 female or vice versa depending on the specific application.

Your friend's Hu has one output and he has a 4 channel amp? Assuming this is the case, there are two ways to do this:

1. If you are splitting them at the HU's side, you would need a pair of 1 male to 2 female connectors. This is the more expensive method, since you would need two runs of rca cables from the HU to the amp.

2. The second, cheaper way is to run a single rca cable from the HU to the amp, then split them at the amp. In this instance, you would need a pair of 1 female to 2 male splitters.

Either way, make sure that each split pair goes to either the left or right channel. In other words, don't run a split pair into the L and R input channel on the amp. One split pair should go to both L channels and the other split pair should go to the R channels.
