RCA Voltage?

I installed in a new head unit not long ago. I noticed my Amp/Sub didn't hit near as hard and the Gain control didn't do as much. No matter how I set it, it just didn't hit has hard. Anyway I think I pushed my Amp/Sub to much b/c a few weeks later my Subs surround blew..

Could a low RCA output voltage cause any of these problems?

My Head unit..Love this thing

Would I be better off running a LOC or a Booster like these?

Pre-Amp Line Drivers

One more issue. I was downloading and updating software the Head unit. A Couple of times when Restarting it to save the settings. My Sub would just get a massive spike in Volume when shutting off. It only did that when I had to do a Hard reset.. Just normal shutting the car off was fine... Could that have blew my Sub?

I strongly suggest picking up a cheap oscilloscope off amazon or ebay, such as the DSO nano. It will ensure you are setting your gains properly and your subs are only seeing a clean signal.
What are those about $70 and up? Going to have to learn how to use that or can a local Shop set it cheap?

It says it has a 2 volt output max. Sounds kind of low. Also yes a spike will blow your subs even faster if your gain is set wrong. I would get a different h/u.
Don't feel like changing the head unit again. Took a bit of time to get it installed and cut my OEM Bezel to fit. Those Bezels are not cheap either.

I contacted the makers of the head unit and let him know. I asked about the out out voltage too. It can't be raised on their end...

Is the spike from the Head unit shutting off before the Amp is told too? The company is really good at making software updates for radio.

Can I just do a LOC or one of those items I linked too above? The spike is only when doing a HARD restart and not a daily, weekly or may never need to again.

I do want my Amp to get a strong clean signal.

I'd never suggest going to a shop. An oscope is a great tool which you will use over and over if you ever change your headunit, amp, or subs. They can be had for $65 on Amazon.

Sounds good...

Back to the links above... Will those help with SQ for my Amp maybe control the Voltage Spikes as well?

Yea terrible EQ.
Looks like that head unit is all about features and coolness factor over sound quality.
It snagged me on the coolness and features. I was focused on finding a head unit that would run Torque Pro. I didn't even know RCA's had different voltages. Wasn't even something I knew to look for.

Looks like I'll be adding an EQ and Line Booster to the list of things to get.

Will the Clarion EQS747 Boost the RCA too?

This one does.. but it's expensive...

Line driver will help with the low rca voltage. Just check that you don't over drive the line to your amps. You can pull the fuse on your amps to avoid the spike pop when updating or what ever is causing the spike.

How much is to much volts for the Amp?

Thanks, I talked with the AVIN CS and he is talking with his programmers on the issue.

Found this.. EQ and 10v Line Driver...for a decent price..

that PPI unit is a fine choice but it's made to go in the dash. Audio Control has trunk mount options to go near the amp. do you have the space up front for another component?

you never told us what amps you have so we don't know what voltage the amps can accept. it'll state that in the user manual or maybe on the gain dial label.

the rated voltage out is only a peak or maximum at max headunit volume with a full strength signal. music is a varying signal and will be much less than that for most of the time. what volume range do you listen to? are the speakers amplified also? there is no SQ with speaker powered by a head unit.

you should have a toggle switch to turn off the remote turn-on signal to the amps when not in normal use - such as updating. i assume you wired the turn-on to the head unit remote output? use the switch when fiddling with the head unit because those spikes will damage speakers/subs.

Ill be running VFL 4480 from American Bass.

Only my sub is on an amp, doors and dash are off the head unit.

I believe I have a pocket under the radio it will fit perfect.
