RCA Voltage

Hey, I'm trying to figure out what sort of voltage is running through my RCAs, to get an idea where to start setting my gain. My head unit has a 4v output, but that goes into my 4ch amp for my speakers. From the RCA out on my 4ch it goes to my Sub amp. Should I be able to use a DMM on the ground and positive of the RCA? If so, what will I be setting it at?

DMM, for some reason I think to myself, heh, I know how to use a DMM, then I try to use it and fail. Don't know why.

Does it matter what test tone, 50hz, 60hz?

whatever frequency is within the playing range.

if it is for a subwoofer amp, then 50 or 60 will work.....if it is for mids/highs, then use a higher tone
