RCA question

Hey guys,

New here but an amateur at car audio. I'm building my first real system in my Olds 98, and I'm a little confused as to the RCA inputs. There are only 2 sets of inputs on my deck, and I have an Infinity Kappa ONE for my subs (1 set of inputs taken up) and an Infinity Kappa FIVE pushing the dash, door, and rear deck speakers. The Kappa FIVE has 3 sets of RCA inputs, 1 for the "Sub" channel that will be pushing my rear deck 6x9s, and 2 more sets for the left and right channels. How do I connect the RCA's for everything to my deck? Is there some sort of adapter, or am I just missing something? I figure even with Y-splitters I still would fall short.

Thanks in advance for any help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smokin.gif.f1dc8d2acb1809e863ebd6a47eaa0d45.gif

If you have 4 full range RCA lines take two channels (one left and one right) and use a y-splitter to gain the needed channels for your sub. Repeating this you can have as many RCA lines as you need. The bad part about doing this is you can have some loss every time you split the signal.

At the amplifier set your high pass filters and low pass filters to the range that works best for each speaker/sub.

I am not going to deny that replacing the deck is the best answer for this problem, but if you are short on cash there are workarounds.

The subwoofer output on the infinity kappa five is only going to play bass frequency, you wont get full range frequency going to your 6x9's.

We need more information, where are your speakers? depending on that you can wire speakers together for a 2 ohm load and put them on 1 channel.

Your mono amp also has a preamp output set. If you don't want to wire speakers together on 1 channel you can use 1 pair from the head unit going into the mono amp, then the RCA output on the mono amp going into the kappa five subwoofer input. Then use 2 RCA splitters to split the last pair of RCA's comming off your head unit and use it for the remaining 4 channels for your mid's and high's.

really..seems like the kappa 4 with the rear channels running at 2ohms would have been the logical move.

Yep, I wouldn't run the 6x9's off the sub channel. There will probably be phase issues with the sub and they will be in mono. I would use one splitter, wire the front speakers to the front of the 5ch and run the back speakers and 6x9's to the rear on the 5 ch @ a 2ohm load. Just because you have an extra channel available doesn't mean it has to be used.

Thanks for the replies guys...

I was hoping it wouldn't come down to replacing the deck, because the one I got fits the interior look well and has everything (GPS, backup cam, touchscreen, etc). To be more specific, the car is a 1985 oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham, I've got 2 3.5" speakers in the corners of the dash, 2 4" speakers in the bottom front corners of the front doors, 2 6x9 speakers in the rear deck and 2 12" subs in the trunk. All the speakers are Infinity Kappa series.

As far as the sub channel on the five goes, that's disappointing because I doubt that one channel will be able to push the 2 kappa 12's. So my most logical move right now is to wire the 2 12's to my mono amp, and wire the dash, door, and 6x9s on the left side of the car to the left channel on the 5 channel amp, and wire all the right side speakers to the right, leaving the sub channel unused?

Would another option be to get a male to dual female splitter to expand the inputs on the deck, or would that not work?

Thanks for the patience guys, I guess I should've figured this out before I started purchasing all the equipment.

Guys, the amp has a 2 channel input mode. No splitters required.

Always read owners manuals before providing product specific advice.

OP:

Combine dash and doors on the same channels. Amp channels 1 & 2. Set high pass crossover around 180Hz

Rear 6x9 on their own channels. Amp channels 3 & 4. Set high pass crossover around 80Hz

Set input switch on 2CH

The sub channel input can be set on INT to get the same signal as the others.

But he doesn't need to use the 5th channel at all as he has a mono amp with 3 times more power. I agree with everything else.

i didn't say to use the 5th channel, just that it doesn't need dedicated inputs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

keep_hope_alive,

Thank you so much, man. I really appreciate the help. Like I said, this is my first real system, I should be glad this was my main problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I had cheap speakers before and I sound deadened and insulated the entire car with Second Skin products, I haven't driven it since then but I'm hoping when I'm done it will be like a new car.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and help!
