Well guys I have searched every thread, had a few of my own, read every site and installed 150 sq. ft. of Edead in my Explorer. I put way too much time and effort into my system only to have my bass notes fizzle out a series of pops and rattles! Is there such thing as a car that dosent rattle? That is the biggest annoyance to me and I just cant handle listing to rattles of any sort.....today alone I spent an hour messing with stuff and I still got rattles! Im putting 2 15" Elemental As in when they arrive and I really wanna get this taken care of. If anyone has any ideas, tips, or resonating questions please post them. Im willing to go the the most extreme measures to ensure I dont hear anything rattling!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

Car w/o rattles Does not exist. All the damping does is add mass to stiffen your surface of the vehicle. Theirby reducing resonant energy. One problem is the large vehicle. Nothing you can do about that. Another that i have had great success with is the install. For instance i had my subs in a sealed box facing the back in my trunk. Brownbread on the trunk lid. Rattled like hell. I then built a new box. facing the subs forward. Ripped out some factory road noise killer and i my bass now sounds alot louder. I now dont have to turn them up as much so the reattling is now less

as for extreme measures. Rip out seats carpet and all then dynamat the whole thing with a few layers. (some SPL compeditors put concrete in their doors just to get the mass they need to keep the panels rigid)

yeah Ive ripped out the whole interior even the dash...I got two layers of Edead on the floor and sides, three on the tail gate and I have foam stuffed in between the exterior and interior panels. Right now I have two E12ks pointed back....my new box is vented and has to point up with my 2 A15s. (tuned to 25hz.)

My ideas so far are to

-Take the plastic panel off the tailgate and make a new one out of MDF and secure it to the tailgate so its more solid.

-brace the interior from side to side so the panels have constant pressure on them wich should keep them from resonating.

-gut everything and start over?

I think my problem lies in the tailgate latch...I got the window latch on lock (electrical tape) but the large latches on the side are hard. Anyone know a way to stiffen the springs that hold it shut?

hey

ROOFING TAPE WORKS!!!

ive got a '85 supra hatchback(fastback)-(looks like a 240sx) and ive got a L7 and im hitting 147.4 on the dash. i gutted the whole car out and used roofing tape to dampen sound and stiffen the panels of my car... its pretty cheap (its the tar-like sticky stuff w/ aluminum on one side) 6" wide by 50' long is 17 bucks at the local hardware store. i used 5 rolls and did the major parts of the car and the really rattle-prone parts twice. now, windows up and doors closed, if i slam my system (all the way to 147 or so) you can barely hear the bass from inside the car. the only thing that makes a little noise is yes....the latch that holds the hatch closed, and my license plate cover, which no matter how hard, and what i do to it, it wont stop vibrating:p

just my 2 cents

try driving my mustang every day. when the music is up, most of them aren't hearable, but when the music is off, you can hear everything rattle and twist, mainly under acceleration, and the newest noise sounds like a high pitched gargling noise.

find the spot where it rattles where in yr case its all on the inside ..just put it in there and let the foam work for itself..dont get too happy with it though or yr suv muight float in water

in my case, the rattles are everywhere. i chased one of them down to a muffler bracket. another one was found with the rear fin. one of the lock nuts wasn't completely tightened, so the washer behind it was loose. it is to the point where i just laugh at them now. however i have come up with a temporary solution. just never turn the music off.

gotta remeber.

rattles and vibrations are 2 different monsters.

dynamat , edead etc will handle the vibrations, and CAn help with rattles in certain spots.

your best bet is to be a rattele hunter. sit in the car with a tone sweep cd in. keep each tone on long enough to identify each rattle. use a closed cell foam to put in between the 2 ratteling parts, dampen over it with dynamat or the equivelant, then move on to the next rattle or the next tone on the cd. each tone will bring new rattles out of the car. this is a huge PITA but after it is all done you will be rattle free. (untill you hit a speed bump and lossen somthing new)

it is a never ending quest to have a rattle free auto.

good luck

i dont know about everyone else, but i sure dont car that much about rattles. yes they are annoying and you want to get rid of them, but the truth is that you never will. you can help the rattles by trying to track some down and eliminate some of them, but you will never get all of them out. something will always rattle as long as you keep your car on the road where there are bumps, and as long as there are vibrations present.

oh, for your screws that are rattling, make a gasket out of edead or rubber and use it like a washer. Most of the time this wont make much of a difference if its a panel, but if the head of a screw is touching metal, this helps a lot.

you can get new clips for your panels, that'll help them attatch better. Use deadener on the panel. I personally think that you wont have to cover the panel completely.

BTW, I absolutely DESPISE rattles. They drive me INSANE!!!

thanks for the tips, i just tightened them though. i do have rubber spacers in my toolbox though for other stuff. never thought about using them for stopping rattles though, i will have to try that.

sounds like a regular old ford problem to me. But really some people in this town (clarksville) actually loosen stuff up to make it rattle. what is the world coming to?
