Eclipse Titanium, W7's, XXX, ect - hit too hard for second skin!?

I've been adding on and upgrading my install since I first got my 12" Eclipse Titanium on April 23, 2003. I finally got the settings right about 2 weeks after installing it, then I made a custom amp rack about a week ago. And yesterday I installed second skin. Well I was very impressed with the gains in SQ and SPL. BUT... if I turn it up and go outside the car it still rattles like crazy. I admit that there is less rattle, and I did get noticible improvements in the performance of the sub... SO;

Does anyone else out there have problems like these? I mean, this is not a pure SPL setup so thats why I said Eclipse Ti, W7 and XXX... because they all have a good mix of both. But still it is only a single, sealed 12" firing towards the rear. I do have a big trunk... but I didn't leave any major places bare... also I spent extra time on places that I knew would be under a fair amount of preassure (trunk lid, and front of trunk, where it deflects off). Or do these subs just hit a little too hard for a single coating? Should I double up on high-preassure areas or just double up everywhere? Or is there some other issue that I am overlooking?

Oh yeah, I used about 45 sq ft of Second Skin damplifier.

Double up in the areas where you feel it needs it...then, see how it is after that. If you still aren't satisfied, put on some more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You can never get rid of all the rattles, but you can get rid of a good amount of it....

ant where are you?

i would probably throw another layer down there if you're not completely satisfied with the results of the first layer......

well heres just a note, i haven't put any second skin on my trunk lid yet but doubled up everywhere, now my stock 6x9's are makin the trunk rattle........sooo just gives you an idea of how well my second skin is workin...

OK it seems like the general consensus out there is to double up. But would you say the most important areas are the trunk lid (2 layers of sheet metal there... probbably rattling) and the front of the trunk (directly where the sub is hitting at)?

Yeah, I am noticing the SQ of this sub more and more, as I hear other people's systems. They may hit just a little harder than mine but never sound one bit as clear. And now with second skin every deep hit is SOOO much deeper (less rattling - making it sound punchy).

Also Denim, did you ever get that video that some kid said PG Titanium Elite's were "dimmpling"?

Have you already put one layer on the trunk lid? If not then get some tripple expanding foam. Take the foam and squirt it into the braces under the trunk lid. Most of the time they are hollow passage ways that can be filled up. When done the trunk lid will make a very noticable difference. I did that and put one layer of Edead V1 on my trunk lid and it dosent rattle at all, and i have a 90 Nissan Sentra with a 15 HC ported.

it really takea bout 100 feet to do a trunk well. If I had a trunk it wouloget get about 150-200 feet.

since you have not done the trunk lid yet. I would reccomend it, but here is the deal:

it is an upside down surface so you are going to have to clean it really well first.

Pint thinner since it wont leave any residue behind.

then add a single layer of Secondskin Damplifier to the trunk skin. not the trunk braces.

then clean that aluminum side of the Second skin with paint thinner. while it dries, fill in the little holes of the trunk braces with carpet padding . I would stay away from the expanding foam since it will leak out of the holes and brances, and is difficult to keep clean while it dries and hard to remove once it is dry.

then add a layer over the entire trunk lid paying special attention to grooves and contours of the lid.

clean that aluminum side then add an additional layer.

this should be enough.

email me with any questions

I have a 94 beretta and I use second skin damplifier extreme. I have my whole trunk done and 3 layers on my lid and i still get big rattles. but it was a lot worse without it.
